Christmas Gingerbread Cake
I'm obsessed with everything gingerbread, especially during the holidays, and thought it'd be fun to create the most delicious Gingerbread Cake to kick off the Christmas season. After several rounds of testing, I finally came up with a tender, light crumb, deliciously...
House Update – Doors
The doors came in last week and Mike spent a couple of days getting them in. This could not have been an easy task, as they're solid wood and pre-hung, making them heavier still. Pre-hung doors come with the frame attached and are commonly used in new construction and...
House Update – Drywall
The mason's scaffolding has been removed and the brickwork has all been completed. We've been told that once we're back to the dry climate of summertime, the bricks and mortar will permanently settle into becoming pure white (as they were when they were initially...
House Update – Exterior and Interior Progress
Progress continues on all aspects of the house. I'm not sure if I've talked about the overall plan for the exterior yet, which is for the entire house portion of the exterior to be brick and the garage to be concrete board and batten siding. The mason and his crew...
About the Japanese Dollar Stores in the USA
We're lucky enough to have several Japanese dollar stores (Daiso) in the Seattle area of Washington State and visits there never disappoint. I'm always surprised that everyone doesn't know about these cutest shops and I thought it'd be fun to give you a peek...
Vintage Inspiration in Obidos, Portugal
Colin and I recently visited Obidos, Portugal and I found so much vintage inspiration in the little village that sits inside the castle walls and is truly trapped in time. I especially loved the vibrant accent colors like yellow and blue carried throughout the...
IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!

Images From The Farm Chicks Fair 2017
I thought you'd enjoy seeing more scenes from this year's Farm Chicks Fair. I'm kind of hopping around in this post, but thought you'd enjoy these little bits and pieces. I always like adding in some fun elements that go along with my theme, which was Home Sweet...
Creative Pay Stations at The Farm Chicks Fair
As you make your way through The Farm Chicks Fair, there's so much to take in. I can spend 20 minutes in one booth and continue to see new things as I look around. This is because the Curators take a great deal of time constructing their space and then layering the...
AROUND THE HOME
House Update – Brick and Angle Iron
In my last update on the house construction, I talked about the brick that we'd be using as the siding. I had explained that we had originally planned on using brick but it turned out that the type of brick we wanted wasn’t available so we had decided to go in a...
House Update – Masonry
When I first wrote about our new home project, I explained that we had originally planned on using white brick but it turned out that it wasn't available and we had decided to go in a different direction. We looked at different natural stones and eventually decided to...
House Update, Behind the Walls
We're just about wrapping up all the construction items on the house that we'll never see. The stuff behind the walls and in the floors. And although these things are obviously so important, I'm really looking forward to moving on to the stuff we will see. That's a...
