SERENA’S LIFE

Goodbye Summer, I’ll Miss You

Goodbye Summer, I’ll Miss You

This morning, we awoke to a chill in the air, and fog surrounded our prairie. As Lukie rubbed the sleep from his eyes and stumbled to the couch, he declared that fall had officially begun. But summer, where did you go? I was just getting to know you. I'm going to miss...

Mt. Hood

Mt. Hood

Colin, our younger boys and I visited Mt. Hood last week. It's the first time I'd been back since I was a little girl, living on the mountain in our family gypsy wagon. What started as a plan to live there for a few weeks, as a part of a commune, turned into a long...

Farm Country Sale

There was an estate sale in the heart of farm country this weekend.  The sale was run by one of my favorite estate sale companies, Monarch.  I really appreciate the descriptions they give in their advertisements because I know they're always accurate.  They described...

The Swimming Hole

The Swimming Hole

When the weather gets really hot, we head for the swimming hole, where the trees grow tall and the water runs clear and cold. We pack a picnic lunch, feast on thimbleberries, and celebrate childhood. MEET SERENA! Stay-at-home mom, Serena Thompson, dreamed of creating...

Testing Week

Testing Week

Thankful

Thankful

I had a moment this weekend, as I was loading the dishwasher for the third time that day, where I couldn't help but think about my childhood and how I grew up without modern conveniences. Since I grew up with no electricity or technology of any kind (other than a...

Twix = Twouble

Twix = Twouble

About 150 miles into our 280 mile trip to Seattle, we realized that trick-or-treating right before a roadtrip is a really bad idea. Especially if too many Twix are consumed.  And I do have to admit that for a split second, I did cry just a little on the inside when I...

IT'S ME, SERENA!

In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!
