The Farm Chicks Fair theme this year is “Home Sweet Home” and I’ve had a lot of fun bringing the theme together in this year’s poster.
I’d had the idea in my mind about featuring the back of a dollhouse with a hand shown, placing a piece of furniture to show the scale and that it’s a dollhouse, not a house. This year, I commissioned Linsey Sappington of The Farmhouse Porchto paint the poster for me, and once it was painted, I had it printed into poster form at Hearn Brothers Printshop.
The poster is based off the work of Heather Benningand her 8 year long project, “The Dollhouse“.

The amount of work Heather put into this life-size project is stunning and I was moved when I learned about how much time she spent bringing the farmhouse back to life as the Dollhouse.
Heather’s work is represented by Slate Art Galleryand you can read about her Dollhouse on the gallery’s website here.
To get started, Linsey’s created an initial overall sketch of the project and tinkered around with adding in elements based off her previous work that fit into the aesthetic:
Little objects like the bunting on the wall, headboard, floral and dotty wallpaper, a rug, etc.
And last of all, came the lettering to finish it all off.
Special thanks to Heather Benning for the inspiration and to Linsey Sappington for her work on this project.

IT'S ME, SERENA!
In 2002, I was dreaming of creating a fun and happy little event to sell my vintage and handmade goods. In 2002, I held my first event in my neighbor's barn along with a handful of friends. The sale became wildly popular and began attracting visitors from across the country and recognition in national magazines. Today The Farm Chicks Vintage & Handmade Fair fills the Spokane County Fairgrounds and features hundreds of creatively and carefully curated spaces packed with vintage and handmade goods. Many describe it as a bucket list event, magical, inspirational, and the best event of its kind in the USA. I describe it as the best weekend of the year!
